In dance in particular the written word is often used as a pre-text, it
describes what the choreographer wants to illustrate, to express or
pass on. Some people read it, others don't, in any case it is the link
to a piece of work which is of a completely different nature. The
choreographer is not always the author of this preamble; a programmer,
journalist or another artist may have written it. In accepting this
step of communication, announcement, and publicity of his or her show,
the choreographer confers two dimensions to his work.
Statement:
Onstage,
the choreographers read various programmes coming from different venues
announcing performances programmed in the ongoing season or the season
to come.
The audience has been given the programme of any given performance being shown during the ongoing season.
